Hi,
I’m Bobby Ellis and I’m 18 years old. This whole
thing started six years ago when I started racing
karts in the WKA National Road Racing Series. Racing
became my passion. In 2006 I became the
national champion in Jr. Sprint. I took a
chance and entered into the selection process for
the Ron Sutton NASCAR driver development program. I am
proud to say that after over 500 applicants, 100
interviews, and 24 drivers invited to test, I made
the cut for the 2007 program and entered a full-blown
professional driver development program under the auspices of Bobby
Ellis Racing LLC.
2007 was dedicated to extensive marketing efforts, training, and
partner acquisition. There were multiple monthly trips for training to the
Ron Sutton Winners Circle NASCAR development facility in California,
tests in Midgets on pavement and on dirt, and physical evaluations,
not to mention more than a dozen showcase races from Sebring Fla. to
Mont Tremblant Canada. All the while my support team logged
countless hours attempting to recruit sponsors and partners for our
efforts.
At
the beginning of
2008, it was obvious that if we were unable to
secure further financial support, continuing the
business venture would be extremely difficult. When
the economy took a turn for the worse and funding did not materialize, we reluctantly
decided to cease operations, withdrawing from the
professional driver development scene.
I
have now directed my focus to my pursuit of an
engineering degree at Virginia Tech (where I have
added a new kind of racing to my repertoire) as
my team concludes the corporation's business
affairs. Although this business venture was not
successful, I feel it provided very valuable lessons
as I go forward.
